Out there you don't hear the echos and calls

Last night, instead of going to sleep at midnight like I had told myself I would, I stayed up a bit reading Metamagical Themas, an excellent book on varied topics like self-reference, Rubik's Cubes, LISP, and sundry. I got a bit sidetracked, as it is a very good book and well worth reading if you haven't already. One chapter turned into four, and then next thing I knew it I was looking at my clock and thinking it said "heh" upside down, then realizing what that meant timewise.

When I woke up at seven, my first thought was that that was pretty late, even more me, recently. My second thought was that the alarm for noon hadn't gone off. Getting up and wandering around the house, I noticed my mom wasn't up yet, which gradually turned to the realization that all the light outside was going the wrong way, and it was in fact seven in the morning, rather than evening. I have no idea why my body, which has grown accustomed recently to twelve hours of sleep or so, got up after what couldn't have been more than three. Hmmmm.
